Living
with Jim and Gayle
November, 2025
We're doing three major house projects this
year: remodeling the kitchen, painting the exterior, and putting
gutters up.
We have ordered new kitchen cabinets. They
are just stock
cabinets from Lowes. They
should be delivered the middle of December. Once delivered, the
installer will inspect them for damage. If there isn't any damage
then we will be scheduled for installation. We can't order the
countertops until after
the cabinets are installed. Once the remodel starts, we will be
without a functioning kitchen
for about a month (ugh).
We bought all new stainless steel appliances (induction
cooktop/convection oven, refrigerator/freezer, and dishwasher).

We bought the stove off of Marketplace so Jim had to wrestle it into
the truck and then into the house. He also had to change the
power
cord. The refrigerator and dishwasher were delivered. Jim
installed
the dishwasher.

We got three quotes for painting the house exterior. All
three quoted us into January or February. We chose the one that
said they could get to it in
January. With that kind of delay, Jim decided he had time to box
in the rest of the water pipes that run along the outside of the
house. He bought all of the wood he'd need. I did a base
coat on the narrow pieces.

Before Jim could rip the plywood and get going, the painter messaged to
say he had an opening the two days after Thanksgiving. After
discussing it more, he ended up power washing the house on Thanksgiving
morning, prepped the house on Friday, and painted on Saturday.
Enclosing the pipes will now have to wait.

Finished house.

With the house freshly painted, the priority is installing
gutters. I
painted the fascia boards last year thinking that Jim would put the
gutters up last year. It didn't happen. Now it is a
priority. The rain, when it comes, comes down
hard and floods around the house foundation.

The termites are back (or probably they never left). They built
an "exploratory tube" from the kitchen ceiling. It is in
almost the exact same place where they built one last year. Of
course, they started one month past the termite spraying
"warranty". Late Thanksgiving day, the termites swarmed into the
house. Apparently, the power washing of the house disturbed
them. We spent the evening vacuuming them up. After dark,
they stopped coming in. We can't get the termite guy in for
another week.

We had a very nice Thanksgiving, inviting friends, Mike and Libby, over
for dinner. The weather was really nice so we were able to have
dessert outside.
Relaxed Bo.
